Wataru ist einer der Highschool-Schüler, die es nach dem Ausbruch des Virus »Unknown Level Four« geschafft haben, sich vor den nur noch ihren Trieben nachgehenden Infizierten zu retten und nun nach einem sicheren Areal suchen. Er macht sich große Sorgen um seine Eltern, die an unterschiedlichen Stellen gleichfalls von dem Ausbruch der Krankheit in der Bevölkerung überrascht werden. Er selbst rettete unter Einsatz seines Lebens seine Mitschülerin Yuuho vor einem Infizierten und hat seitdem ein inniges Verhältnis zu ihr aufgebaut. Er kommt nur schwer mit Auswirkungen des Virus auf sein Umfeld zurecht, durch den vertraute Personen von einem Moment auf den anderen außer Kontrolle geraten können.
