Jose steht für die schlimmen Seiten des Gefängnisses. Denn vielfach kommt es dort unter den Gefangenen zu sexuellen Übergriffen und Vergewaltigungen, welche nicht selten durch Jose und seine Bande verursacht werden. Dabei hat es Jose vor allem auf sehr junge Opfer wie Io oder Guys abgesehen. An Guys reizt Jose aber nicht nur der Körper, sondern auch der sehr willensstarke Geist des Gossenjungen, den Jose nur zu gern gefügig machen möchte.

Allerdings sieht Jose trotz aller Brutalität und Rücksichtslosigkeit in seinen Opfern nicht bloße Lustobjekte, sondern fühlt sich auf eine verquere Weise verpflichtet auch für diese da zu sein, wenn sie in ernsthaften Schwierigkeiten sind. Diese Einstellung rührt vielleicht auch ein wenig daher, dass Jose vor seiner Inhaftierung mit dem ermordeten Privatdetektivs Jared zusammengearbeitet und daraus den Funken Gerechtigkeitsgefühls entwickelt hat.
