Bounts besitzen die Fähigkeit, Seelen zu verzehren und sie dazu zu benutzen, ihr eigenes Leben zu verlängern - praktisch gesehen erreichen sie damit den Zustand der Unsterblichkeit. Es herrschte lange Zeit ein Einvernehmen, sich nur von toten Seelen und niemals von lebenden zu ernähren, dieses Tabu wurde jedoch von Jin Kariya und seinen Gefolgsleuten gebrochen. Das Verzehren lebender Seelen verleiht dem Bount mehr Macht, zu dem Preis allerdings, dass er von nun an altert.
