Sam Winchester wurde 1983 geboren und ist somit 4 Jahre jünger als sein Bruder Dean. Als er 6 Monate alt war, ist seine Mutter von einem übernatürlichem Wesen auf grausame Weise in seinem damaligen Kinderzimmer ermordet worden. Das Gleiche was seiner Mutter widerfahren ist, passierte auch bei seiner Freundin Jessica als er auf der Uni war. Nach dem Ereignis half er seinem Bruder bei der Jagd nach dem Wesen.

Sam ist ein Kind mit übernatürlichen Fähigkeiten. Er hat die Gabe, die Zukunft sehen zu können. Das Wesen, das seine Mutter getötet hatte, hatte es auf ihn abgesehen. Seine Mutter war bei seinem Versuch, Sam zu entführen, im Weg und musste deshalb sterben.
