Yuuko Matsumoto besucht genau wie Naoki Irie die Wissenschafts- und Entwicklungsfakultät der Tonan Universität. Dort, so scheint es, ist sie die einzig weibliche Studentin, was sie u.a. ihrer Intelligenz verdankt. In der Universität ist sie auch wegen ihrer Schönheit bekannt, wodurch sie bei den Damen Neid erntet. Wie so viele, ist auch sie Naoki verfallen und versucht mit aller Macht Aufmerksamkeit von ihm zu bekommen. Somit steht sie in direkter Konkurrenz mit Kotoko. Sie ist jedoch sichtlich davon überzeugt, dass sie Naokis Herz erobern wird und hat bei Wortgefechten auch eher die Oberhand. Sie ist zu anderen sehr unfreundlich und hält sich für etwas besseres, weswegen sie auf andere, überwiegend weibliche Kommilitonin herabschaut.
