Rando ist ein Dämon, der Techniken von anderen kopiert resp. stiehlt. Bis jetzt hatte er bereits 99 Meister ihrer Technik bestohlen und sie umgebracht. Als sein hundertstes Opfer hatte er Genkai auserkoren.
Unter der Gestalt eines Menschen und neuem Alias hatte er sich anonym unter die Teilnehmer des Turniers gemischt, welches Genkais Nachfolger bestimmen soll. Doch der neue Geisterdetektiv Yusuke wurde bereits auf ihn angesetzt und macht ebenfalls beim Turnier mit, wie auch unabhängig davon dessen Freund Kuwabara.
