„Maris Großmutter“ nahm ihre Enkelin nach dem tragischen Unglück vor fünf Jahren zu sich und wollte sie, wegen des von ihr durchlebten Traumas, keinen weiteren emotionalen Stresssituationen aussetzen, weshalb sie Mari von Privatlehrern zu Hause unterrichten ließ. Gegen Maris Willen entschied sie sich nun doch, sie auf ein Mädcheninternat zu schicken. Sie befürchtet, aufgrund ihres fortgeschrittenen Alters und ihres sich verschlechternden Gesundheitszustands, nicht mehr lange zu leben, weshalb sie sich zu diesem Schritt durchrang, um ihre Enkelin nach ihrem Tod versorgt zu wissen.
