Sakuya Asama, wegen ihres deutlich von der traditionellen japanischen Kultur abweichenden Lebensstils auch „West“ genannt, schreibt freiberufliche Reportagen und ist Fotografin. Sie ist eine hübsche Frau Mitte zwanzig. Als beste Freundin von Kei Hatous Mutter, übernahm sie nach ihrem Tod die Sorge für Kei. Allerdings entspricht sie mit ihrer offenen und humorvollen Art eher einer großen Schwester als einer Pflegemutter, auch wenn sie gelegentlich die Erwachsenenrolle einnimmt und sich ihrem Alter angemessen benimmt. Sie trinkt gerne alkoholische Getränke und isst gerne Salziges. Sie ist befreundet mit Hanako Aoi, der Trainerin des „Kendo“-Klubs der Seijou Akademie. Mit Uzuki Senba hat sie jedoch ihre Probleme.

Sakuya Asama ist einer der Hauptcharaktere der Visual Novel Akai Ito. Im Nachfolgerspiel Aoi Shiro und im Manga übernimmt sie nur eine Gastrolle.
