Yanagida ist der Polizeichef und der Vorgesetzte von Keiko Ichinomiya. Ihr Bestreben, die seit etwa 6 Monate andauernden mysteriösen Todesfällen unter Jugendlichen und jungen Erwachsenen aufzuklären, missfällt ihm. Denn aus seiner Sicht handelt es sich bei allen um tragische Unfälle, während Keiko sie für Mordfälle hält. Während der Dienstzeit kümmert er sich vornehmlich um seine Pflanzen im Büro anstatt die Zeit mit wirklicher Polizeiarbeit zu verbringen.
