Yaya ist von einem Katzengott (bzw. Nekogami) namens Shiratama besessen. Dies kennzeichnet ihren Körper mit einem Katzenschwanz, sowie Katzenohren. Sie bewohnt das Zimmer 203 im Yuragi-sou, zeigt nur wenige Emotionen und ist von ihrer Art aus eher direkt. Daneben legt sie ein katzenartiges Verhalten an den Tag: Yaya bevorzugt es an hohen und sonnigen Plätzen zu schlafen, zudem kann sie Fisch nicht widerstehen. Dies macht sie aber nicht nur weil sie von einem Katzengott besessen ist, sondern auch weil sie sich als Mensch stark zu Katzen hingezogen fühlt, deshalb ist sie auch von Shiratama auserwählt worden. Gegenüber Kogarashi ist sie erst recht zurückhaltend bis er für das Haus leckeren Fisch zubereitet.
