Joe Lutz besitzt ein luxuriöses Anwesen auf einer einsamen Insel, die er ebenfalls sein Eigentum nennt und sie von ihrem offiziellen Namen in »La vie en Rose« umgetauft hat. Er lebt dort nach der Philosophie, dass er jeden Menschen, den es in diesen Winkel der Welt verschlägt, zu seinem Glück verhelfen will, da er der Jagd nach materiellen Dingen entsagt hat. Sein Eiland gleicht einem Utopia des Friedens, aber auch des ziellosen Müßiggangs und lullt Van und Wendy doch recht schnell ein, als die beiden dort stranden. Ob Joe aber tatsächlich nur aus altruistischen Motiven so handelt, steht auf einem anderen Blatt...
