Dr. Clay war in der Vergangenheit ein Kollege von Washu und ihr härtester Konkurrent um den Vorsitz der Wissenschafts-Akademie von Jurai. Nach seiner Niederlage wurde er der Kopf der Graduiertenfakultät, was ihm nicht genügte und hegt seither einen starken Groll gegen die siegreiche Washu. Clay selbst ist über 20.000 Jahre alt, überaus trickreich und verschlagen. Getrieben wird er von Neid und Missgunst. Ferner ist er der in Tokimis Diensten stehende Hauptwidersacher in der zweiten Tenchi Muyo!-OVA.
