Seit dem Tod seiner Frau ist der Vater von Chiaki und Fuyuki nicht nur zu seinen Arbeitszeiten nicht zu Hause, sondern besucht auch öfter ihre Großmutter, die der Verlust eines Familienmitglieds sehr getroffen hat, weswegen er immer mal wieder bei ihr vorbei schaut und dann ein oder zwei Tag nicht bei seinen Kindern ist. Er überlasst die Verantwortung in dieser Zeit Chiaki, macht sich aber schon etwas Sorgen, ob sie der Aufgabe gewachsen ist.
