Description

Kadokawa Daiei Studio Co., Ltd. is one of Japan’s four largest film studios.

The company was also known as Kadokawa Herald Pictures, Inc. and Kadokawa Pictures, Inc.

On November 1, 1942, the film studio Dai Nippon Film Co., Ltd. was founded. However, the name was changed to Daiei Film Co. Ltd. at the end of 1945. The distribution of Western films began in 1956. A reorganisation was carried out in 1957, and the company was transformed into a complete film distributor for Western films. The company was renamed Nippon Herald Eiga. In December 1971, Nippon Herald Eiga had to file for bankruptcy.

In September 1974, a new company called Daiei Film Co. Ltd. was founded, which took over the remains of Nippon Herald Eiga’s bankruptcy estate. The company was run as a subsidiary of Tokuma Shoten Publishing Co., Ltd.

Two years later, in 1976, Kadokawa Shoten entered the film business with the film “Inugami-ke no Ichizoku”.

Kadokawa Shoten took over Nippon Herald Eiga from Tokuma Shoten Publishing in 2002.

On November 1, 2002, the new company Kadokawa Daiei Pictures was founded as a subsidiary of Kadokawa Shoten. The company took over all rights from Nippon Herald Eiga.

In August 2005, the company Nippon Herald Films was renamed Kadokawa Herald Pictures. Kadokawa Herald Pictures became a subsidiary of Kadokawa Shoten.

In 2006, Kadokawa Corporation underwent a major restructuring. The companies Kadokawa Pictures and Kadokawa Herald Pictures were merged. The subsequent company was renamed Kadokawa Pictures in 2007.

In 2011, Kadokawa Pictures was integrated into the existing corporate structure of Kadokawa and transformed into a brand.

Due to further restructuring within the Kadokawa Group and Kadokawa Shoten, the new film studio Kadokawa Daiei Studio Co., Ltd. was founded on April 1, 2013.
