Description

Fujimi Shobou is a brand name of the Japanese publishing house Kadokawa.

The company has undergone various restructurings in history. In 1972, the first Fujimi Shobou was founded as a subsidiary of Kadokawa Shoten. The name derives from Fujimi, a square in the Chiyoda district of the city of Tokyo, where the Kadokawa Group is based.

In 1991, the subsidiary was dissolved and integrated into the corporate structure of Kadokawa Shoten, and subsequently the new Fujimi division was founded. The name Fujimi Shobou remained in the company for this department.

At the beginning of October 2005, the decision was made to spin off the Fujimi department again and a new subsidiary was founded with the name Fujimi Shobou. However, unlike in the past, Kadokawa Shoten continues to take care of the sales and distribution of the books. Until 2006 under the name Kadokawa Shoten, from 2007 under the name of the Kadokawa Publishing Group.

The department was only able to survive as an independent subsidiary for a few years. As early as October 1, 2013, the decision was made to integrate the company into Kadokawa’s existing corporate structure and to convert Fujimi Shobou into an imprint. From then on, all publications were marked Fujimi Shobou with Kadokawa, without any indication of the origin of Fujimi Shobou.

On April 1, 2015, the decision was made to abandon the imprint and use Fujimi Shobou as a pure brand name. In the course of this, the former sales website also went out of service.

On August 17, 2021, Fujimi Shobou’s brand homepage on Kadokawa’s main page was removed and the brand was closed. The previous works were taken over by Kadokawa.

Fujimi Shobou was the editor of the following manga magazines:
  • Gekkan Dragon Age (月刊ドラゴンエイジ): Gekkan Dragon Age is a shounen manga magazine published monthly since April 9, 2003.
  • Dragon Magazine, or Doramaga/DM for short (ドラゴンマガジン): Dragon Magazine is a biweekly light novel magazine for adults that specialises in Seine manga. The first issue was published in 1988. Until the changeover on March 19, 2008, the magazine was published monthly.

The following Shuueisha magazines have already been discontinued:
  • Gekkan Comic Dragon (月刊コミックドラゴン): The monthly manga magazine specialising in shounen manga was first published in 1992. In April 2003, it was merged with Gekkan Dragon Junior magazine to form the Gekkan Dragon Age.
  • Gekkan Dragon Junior (月刊ドラゴンジュニア): The Gekkan Dragon Junior was a manga magazine specialising in shounen manga. It was first released on July 26, 1997, and was published monthly until April 2003. In April 2003, it was merged with Gekkan Comic Dragon magazine to form the Gekkan Dragon Age.
