Description

Amazon.com, Inc. is an American online retailer founded in 1994 with a wide range of products.

Amazon Video is Amazon’s VoD offering.

Mergers and acquisitions created Online Rentals Limited in the UK (operating as DVDsOnTap), which was bought by the London-based media company Arts Alliance Media in 2003. DVDsOnTap announced some time later that it would operate under the Lovefilm brand in the future.

In April 2006, Lovefilm and its competitor ScreenSelect merged. In 2008, the DVD rental business was bought from Amazon Deutschland. Amazon became the largest shareholder with a 42 percent share and took over Lovefilm completely in 2011.

Under the name Amazon Prime, Amazon offered a service with an annual fee, allowing free delivery and next-day delivery.

In 2014, Lovefilm was incorporated into Amazon Prime, which thus became Amazon Instant Video (Amazon Video since September 2015).

Since April 2016, Amazon has also been specifically licensing anime series for simulcasts – initially only for selected countries, but since December 2016 also almost worldwide.

In January 2017, with Anime Strike, the first themed channel was created in the USA.
