Korean Broadcasting System (kurz: KBS) ist eine südkoreanisches öffentlich-rechtliche Rundfunkanstalt welche verschiedene Radio- und Fernsehsender betreibt.

Am 16. Februar 1927 wurde der Radiosender Kyeongseong Broadcasting Corporation, durch den damaligen Governor-General von Korea gegründet. Als zweite Radiostation des Landes bekam der dazugehörige Radio-Sender im Jahr 1947 das Rufzeichen HLKA, nachdem die internationale Fernmeldeunion Südkorea das Prefix „HL“ zugewiesen hat. Im Jahr 1948 ging der Radiosender zur nationalen Verbreitung über und änderte den Namen in Seoul Central Broadcasting Station.

Die erste Fernsehausstrahlung startete in Südkorea im Mai 1956 mit dem ersten Fernsehsender HLKZ-TV, welcher 1961 von Seoul Central Broadcasting Station aufgekauft wurde. Am 3. März 1973 wurde die staatliche Radiostation schließlich in ein öffentliches Rundfunkunternehmen umgewandelt und erhielt den Namen Korean Broadcasting System. Drei Jahre später wurde der Hauptsitz in Yeouido fertiggestellt.

Im Jahr 1980 wurde das Farbfernsehen gestartet, ebenso werden erste Werbesendungen auf dem öffentlichen Fernsehsender gestartet, was zu dieser Zeit für öffentlich-rechtliche Rundfunkanstalten noch nicht normal war. KBS hat in der Zeit durch die Militärregierung verschiedene kleinere, private Rundfunkanstalten aufgekauft.

Im Jahr 1981 startete das Unternehmen die Fernsehsender KBS 3TV und Education FM, diese beiden Programme wurden schließlich am 27. Dezember 1990 an das neu gegründete, unabhängige Unternehmen Educational Broadcasting System (EBS) abgegeben.

Bereits im Jahr 1995 startet das Unternehmen die Verbreitung ihrer Fernsehprogramme über das Internet.
