KSM was founded in 2002 in the form of a civil law partnership and has been run as a limited liability company since 2006. The headquarters are in Wiesbaden. Since the company was founded, documentaries have been released alongside live-action films. From 2007, the company also distributed its first anime on DVD, most of which were shown on German TV in the 1990s.
In 2014, the KSM Anime label was created, which has become one of the focal points of the portfolio within a short time. The first titles under the new label included “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood” and “The Irregular at Magic High School”. Unlike before, KSM has since also published series and films that were licensed directly from Japan and dubbed on its own behalf. Measured by the amount of releases, KSM has established itself as the second largest anime publisher in Germany since 2017.
Since the end of 2015, KSM has been showing selected anime films as events in German and Austrian cinemas at irregular intervals; “Expelled From Paradise” made the start.
The publisher was acquired by Koch Media in summer 2019.
