El argumento de La Leyenda del Caballero Heroico se situa años después de la historia contada en los 13 OVAs de saga japonesa de fantasía heroica Record of Lodoss War. En esta ocasión se presenta a un nuevo grupo de personajes que intentan evitar la resurrección de la diosa Cardis por parte de las fuerzas del mal. El protagonista es un joven caballero llamado Spark, inexperto pero con el valor suficiente para convertirse en el héroe más grande que el mundo haya conocido.

Spark è un donzello, ovvero un aspirante cavaliere, desideroso di mostrare tutto il proprio valore sul campo di battaglia. Tuttavia il re Kashoe sembra avere altre intenzioni sul suo conto, forse addirittura nominarlo aspirante al trono. Un evento inaspettato sconvolge però i piani di tutti: il regno di Allania e quello di Marmo si sono alleati per sconfiggere quello di Flaim: la guerra è di nuovo pronta a divampare sull’isola di Lodoss, detta anche "l’isola maledetta" proprio a causa degli scontri che l’anno devastata nel corso dei secoli.
