In „Es war keinmal“ begeben sich nun zwölf junge Manga-Zeichner auf die Reise durch die Märchenwelt, und von Komödie bis Drama interpretieren sie die alten Geschichten auf ihre ureigene Art und Weise. Zu bewundern sind u. a. „Die Nelke“, „Die Hexe Babajaga“ und „Der Froschkönig“.
