In einem alten Tempel, weitab vom Schuss und von den Errungenschaften der Zivilisation, inmitten von fast einem Dutzend Katzen sowie einer alten und strengen Großmutter, lebt die 19-jährige Chion-san. Sie hat von ihrem verstorbenen Opa die Tempeldienste übernommen und teilt sich diese mit ihrer Oma. Neu in diese Idylle hinzugekommen ist der Oberschüler Gen, ein entfernter Verwandter der Familie, der aus eigenem Antrieb seine Lebensumstände geändert hat.

Gen lernt schnell neue Freunde kennen, von denen einige auch mit Chion befreundet sind, die ihres Zeichens zu ihrer Schulzeit vor allem bei ihren Kouhais sehr beliebt war. Der Tempel beginnt sich wieder mit Leben zu füllen. Die beiden neu zusammengezogenen Jugendlichen haben aber auch eine gemeinsame Vergangenheit – an die sich scheinbar nur Chion erinnern kann …
