Die Geschichte spielt in der nahen Zukunft in einer Kleinstadt am Meer. Yoshioka, der erst kürzlich seine Frau verloren hat, will den Rest seines Lebens ruhig ausklingen lassen. Da aber seine Kinder Angst um seine Gesundheit haben, schenken diese ihm ein humanoides Roboter-Hausmädchen namens Ponko, das ihn fortan bei der Bewältigung seines Alltags unterstützen soll.

Ponko gibt ihr Bestes, um ihrem neuen Herren das Leben so einfach wie möglich zu machen, doch ihr »Bestes« stellt sich als pures Chaos heraus, denn Ponko ist ein Riesentollpatsch. So nimmt Yoshiokas ruhiges Leben eine unerwartete Wendung!
