The Makeup Remover (2018)

All her life, Yeseul has focused more on her studies than on her looks. Her family and friends have always told her that you “automatically” become prettier when you start university. And now the time has come: She has finally made it to her university of choice, though, she is still waiting for her “glow up” …

One day, Yeseul visits a nearby beauty salon because she wants to be as beautiful as other girls her age, but unfortunately everything goes wrong: She doesn’t like the result at all and the employee is extremely rude to her. By pure chance, she meets the well-known make-up artist Yuseong Cheon, who has been looking for “the perfect face” for some time – and finally finds it in her! Together with Yeseul as a model, Yuseong wants to take part in the make-up competition “Face Off Cinderella”. But the more rounds progress, the more questionable the social role of make-up becomes for them. Can they still win the competition?

Schon ihr ganzes Leben hat sich Yeseul mehr aufs Lernen als auf ihr Aussehen konzentriert. Ihre Familie und ihre Freunde haben ihr immer eingetrichtert, dass man automatisch hübscher wird, wenn man mit der Universität anfängt. Und jetzt ist es soweit: Endlich hat sie es an ihre Wunschuni geschafft, aber auf ihren »Glow Up« wartet sie immer noch …

Eines Tages besucht Yeseul einen nahe gelegenen Schönheitssalon, weil sie sich wünscht, auch mal so schön wie andere Mädchen in ihrem Alter zu sein, doch das geht leider in die Hose: Das Ergebnis gefällt ihr überhaupt nicht und der Angestellte ist noch dazu extrem unhöflich. Rein zufällig trifft sie dort auf den bekannten Make-up-Artisten Yuseong Cheon, der seit einiger Zeit »das perfekte Gesicht« sucht – und schließlich in ihr findet! Zusammen mit Yeseul als Model möchte Yuseong beim Make-up-Wettbewerb »Face Off Cinderella« mitmachen. Doch je mehr Runden die beiden weiterkommen, desto fragwürdiger wird die gesellschaftliche Rolle von Make-up für sie. Können die beiden den Wettbewerb trotzdem gewinnen?
