Description

Thousands of years ago, the Egyptian sun goddess Ra gave birth to six gods – among them Nut, goddess of the sky, and Geb, god of the earth. They fell in love but were cursed not to birth children due to a terrible prophecy. Desperately, they asked the god of wisdom for help, who defeated Ra in a wager. She now had to close her eyes for four days. During this time, Nut and Geb gave birth to four new deities: Osiris, the god of life, Isis, goddess of magic, Nephthys, goddess of harmony and peace, and Seth, god of war and the desert. Together with Tefnut, goddess of moisture, and Shuh, god of air and wind, these nine deities formed what was known as the Ennead.

Everything was peaceful until, one day, the goddess of desolation whispered jealousy into Set’s ears. Full of hatred and envy, he cut the body of his brother Osiris into nine pieces and threw them into the Nile. He crowned himself ruler of Egypt and ruled bloodily so that none of the other deities dared to speak out against him. Isis managed to revive Osiris, though he was already trapped in the underworld. He gave her his seed, which she implanted in herself – thus, Horus was born. As the rightful heir of Egypt and son of Osiris, he challenged his uncle Set to a duel. The winner would become king of Egypt without any objection ever again …

Annotation:
In Egyptian mythology, the battle between Horus and Set forms the central part of the Osiris myth.
