Eine 29-jährige Frau wird von Elin Zahad, einer Figur aus dem Roman »Wie man sein Schicksal verteidigt« besessen. Sie heiratet im Alter von zehn Jahren den jungen Herzogssohn Aiden Leanster durch eine arrangierte Ehe. Im Roman ist Elin eine böse Frau, die ihren Ehemann belästigt und schließlich wegen des versuchten Mordes an Aidens Geliebter Julia Charte zum Tode wird. Elin möchte natürlich nicht das gleiche Ende wie der Roman haben und sich daher mit Aiden gut verstehen. Sobald Julia auftaucht, möchte sie sich von Aiden scheiden lassen und ein neues, glückliches Leben im Ausland führen. Doch das Eheleben verläuft nicht wie geplant. Aiden scheint in sie verliebt zu sein.
