In einem kleinen russischen Dorf hat sich eine schreckliche Tragödie ereignet: Nachdem ein Wolf mit dem T-Virus, der bei Kontakt eine Mutation in einen blutrünstigen Zombie hervorruft, infiziert wurde, hat er einen Dorfbewohner nach dem anderen angegriffen und somit den Virus übertragen. Chris Redfield und Jill Valentine, zwei talentierte Mitglieder der Spezialeinheit S.T.A.R.S., werden beauftragt, den Fall zu untersuchen und Überlebende zu finden. Dass der Virus sich dabei außerhalb der Umbrella Corporation, die den Virus hergestellt hat, ausbreiten konnte, wirft viele Fragen auf.
