Kayo Baba ist wegen versuchten Mordes inhaftiert. Sie hatte ihren Ehemann wegen einer Affäre niedergestochen. Im Gefängnis lernt sie Akemi Adachi, die wegen illegalen Drogenbesitzes verurteilt wurde, Chinatsu Katsuda, verurteilt wegen Steuerhinterziehung, Yoko Daimon, verurteilt wegen Betruges und Veruntreuung und Shinobu Edogawa, verurteilt wegen Mordes, kennen.

Da sie anfangs große Schwierigkeiten mit dem Gefängnisleben hat, bildet sie eine Allianz mit ihren vier Mitgefangenen. Sie findet außerdem heraus, dass Shinobu das Opfer eines Fehlurteils geworden ist.

Sechs Jahre später wird Kayo aus der Haft entlassen und trifft sich mit ihren ehemaligen Mitgefangenen Akemi, Chinatsu und Yoko. Gemeinsam schmieden sie einen Plan, um Shinobu Gerechtigkeit widerfahren zu lassen. Unterstützt werden sie dabei von Futaba Wakai, der Aufseherin, die sie in den vergangenen Jahren mit Strenge, aber auch Hilfsbereitschaft durch die Zeit im Frauengefängnis begleitet hat.
