Im Jahre 1900 fällt unbemerkt von der Welt ein Meteorit auf eine philippinische Insel. 111 Jahre später lässt der Wissenschaftler William Seabrook den Meteoriten durch einheimische Piraten bergen. Die Piraten wollen sich den Meteoriten jedoch selbst aneignen und stören dadurch die Dekontaminationsprozedur des Wissenschaftlers. Zeitgleich werden die jugendlichen Grabräuber Romy und Peewee von einem wütenden Lynchmob aus Dorfbewohnern verfolgt. In ihrer Not flüchten sie auf die Insel, auf der sich schon die infizierten Piraten befinden. Niemand konnte wissen, worauf er sich hierbei eingelassen hatte.
