Hiroshi Tanaka trägt mit großem Stolz eine ziemlich extravagante Haarpracht, welche den Afro-Haircuts, die von Afroamerikanern in den 70ern getragen wurden, gleicht. Wer denkt, dass dieser Haar-Stil viel Pflege bei einem Friseur, der auf Afros spezialisiert ist, braucht, ist auf der falschen Spur, denn Afro Tanaka wurde mit diesem Haarschnitt geboren. Um mehr Freiheiten zu haben, zog Tanaka nach Tokio. Er schuftet wirklich hart und obwohl er schon bald 24 wird, hat er immer noch keine feste Freundin. Unterdessen wird er von einem alten Schulfreund benachrichtigt, dass dieser bald heiraten wird. Tanaka erinnert sich an ein Versprechen, dass sie sich damals gegeben hatten und ist jetzt noch fixierter darauf eine Freundin zu finden. Währenddessen zieht ein süßes Mädchen namens Aya Kato in die Gegend. Wird es Afro Tanaka schaffen mit seinem ungewöhnlichen Aussehen dieses Mädchen zu erobern?
