Genzou leidet sehr darunter, dass die Sowjetunion seine Heimatinsel nun übernommen hat. Wenngleich er keinen Tumult verursacht, ist er als Fischer darauf angewiesen, raus aufs Meer zu fahren, um Nahrung für seine Familie zu bekommen. Dadurch dass er das nun nicht mehr darf, ist er ans eigene Heim gefesselt, wo er auch nur noch im Stall unterkommen darf, da eine russische Familie ins Haupthaus zog. In seinem Alter sieht er sich auch nicht mehr dazu in der Lage, etwas anderes zu erlernen.
